The name "Temple of the Moby Hack" comes from a whim by MC in a good mood, as a pun to both the Discordian Society and the subcultural and/or religious group Temple ov the Psychik Youth.
The reasoning went something like this: many hackers almost worship a "moby hack", for instance an insanely beautiful computer program. Hence, of course, "the temple of the moby hack", a place for worshipping moby hacks.
Please note that Temple of the Moby Hack has no affiliation what so ever with any of these 'organizations': it was merely the inspiration to the name itself.
MC also thought some people would remember The Hack Machine, a free access Unix system MC used to run in Elder Times. In some ways, the hack.org domain and the computer hosting these services is continuing the spirit of The Hack Machine.
